About Bywater

Bywater is one of the neighborhoods that was populated shortly after the French Quarter. It was first populated in the early 1800s and has become one of the most unique places to call home in New Orleans. The neighborhood offers plenty of charm and it's rather popular with homebuyers and developers.

Real Estate in Bywater

Original homes, along with renovated homes are all found throughout Bywater. It's common to find cottages built off the ground, along with very large, grand home with wraparound porches. Even some low-maintenance condo developments are found throughout the area.

Bywater has actually become a very popular spot for developers. Many have created new condo projects, garden properties and even some unique bed and breakfasts. A number of homes throughout Bywater have been renovated, yet still remain very classic with plenty of charm.

The neighborhood provides something for just about any homebuyer and any budget. Many homes are very affordable, while others are large, luxurious and more expensive. Just about every architectural style known to New Orleans is found in Bywater.

Shopping, Dining & Entertainment

Along with the homes, Bywater provides plenty of things to do for residents. It's known as one of the best neighborhoods for art, dining and entertainment in the entire city. Residents enjoy great theater venues, along with excellent music and art. Plenty of restaurants, bars and clubs are also found throughout the Bywater area.

Along with the many cultural offerings, Bywater is home to a number of parks, gardens and museums. It has both tennis courts and walking/biking trails for those looking to stay active, as well. A 120-block area of the neighborhood was even named as a Historic District in 1993.

Crescent Park is found in Bywater, which offers a great place for those walking dogs, looking to go jogging or those riding a bike. It's an excellent park with space for events and plenty more.

In addition, Bywater is home to The Old Ironworks, Porche West, Satsuma Cafe and Dr. Bob's Folk Art. All of these unique spots provide something you simply don't find anywhere else in New Orleans.

Shopping in Bywater is unique with plenty of local spots, art galleries and boutiques. Dining is also rather unique and the nightlife revolves around great music. It's been called a "hipster" neighborhood in the past because of the unique charm and Bywater certainly lives up to it.

The neighborhood is also only about a 15 minute walk to the edge of French Quarter. This means residents can enjoy some of the best offered by the city of New Orleans without having to live directly in French Quarter.

Living in Bywater

The St. Claude Avenue arts corridor makes Bywater one of the top draws for both locals and tourists. It's a great place for new homebuyers and developers, as well. The convenient location, great nightlife and plenty of amenities makes Bywater very attractive. With plenty of unique homes available, condo developments popping up and a number of amenities, living in Bywater is something special for sure.
